Herdsman / Youngstock Manager
Candidate Description:
Education: BS degree in Dairy Science.
Allison was raised on a 60 cow dairy milking in tie stalls 2 times per day. She learned at a young age the importance of calf care with feeding and detecting health issues and treating with electrolytes and any medication needed. Once she was tall enough to reach the pipeline, she took on milking using 5 units without auto-takeoff. Allison had to detect mastitis and treat if needed. During her undergraduate time at college, she worked as a student milker in a double 12 parallel, 3x milking with 400 head. She also worked with research on feed efficiency which included individual reclaim daily, milk sampling once per week and body weights once per week. After graduating, went on to work full time for the university farm focusing on reproduction and breeding. She also worked with fresh cows taking body temps daily and BHBA testing 2 times per week. Ketotic cows were treated daily with propylene glycol. Fresh cows also received calcium bolus within 24 hours of calving. Allison is searching for a position that would involve breeding and raising calves.
