Farm
Candidate Description:
This Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT candidate always had a love for farming. He grew up farming on small farms with both of my grandfathers; one had a small farm, and one had a small ranch, both were too small to support the next generation. He started ranching when he was 15 and leased his first farm when he was 17 and made a little profit and that ignited his desire to continue farming. He went to college and met his wife, a dairyman’s daughter. He started farming for his father-in-law on his small operation milking 300 cows and growing 400 acres of Irrigated crops. He knew he would have to pick up his own acres to keep going. The bank laughed at Him and told him there was no way he could start farming on his own, he told the bank to watch and see. He saved up enough money for a down payment on a tractor and baler and started custom farming. Next, he found a couple of renters that leased him some ground and that got his momentum going. He was able to pick up more acres and get a corn planter and combine then he started buying as many beef cows as he could pay for at the end of each year. He found a 60-acre piece of ground with an old pivot on it that had not been used for several years and bought the ground with credit cards. He paid for that land in three years with a lot of blood sweat and tears then took that equity and bought another 350 acres of tuff ground and put pivots on it. By then he was custom farming, managing 500-acres for dairymen and farming his own acres. Three years ago, because of the loss of most of his rented ground due to the deaths of some of his landowners and because there was no land available to rent or buy any where he sold his ground and moved his 200 head of beef cows to southern Missouri. He now desires to move his family closer to the west and return to crop farming where he can utilize 20 years of farm knowledge. He would like to be able to purchase additional acres and be part of a team where he can raise his family, working with them and teaching them hard work and responsibility.
