Candidate Description:
This Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT candidate is a lifelong horseman and rancher in Montana. He was Ranch Manager for a private, 350-acre, high end guest ranch. The ranch included 9 private cabins, lodge, barn, hayfields, livestock and horses. His was responsible for all aspects of the ranch including budgeting, hiring staff (chef, household cleaners, summer staffing, household manager and service vendors.), guest programs which included hiking, fishing (hiring guides and guiding myself), shooting sports (archery, rifle and skeet shooting), horseback riding (getting all horses prepared for the season, assessing the ability of each guest, shoeing horses and taking out trail rides, teaching low stress cattle handling and cattle moves) and organizing ranch projects for guests to participate in. He worked with the USFS to acquire a 60-acre timber project on Forest Service land in conjunction with the logging project on the ranch. Each spring, he worked with the USFS weed crew to document and spray weeds on Forest Service land adjacent to the ranch. An irrigation ditch ran for 2 miles in the Forest Service, and he worked with the Forester on getting the proper permits for cleaning the ditch and replacing head gates. Two bridges were built capable of transporting logging trucks and two footbridges were constructed for access to the Forest Service. He also has experience as a self-employed horse trainer and farrier and at the height of his career he would train 8 horses per month and shoe 30 horses per week. He taught seminars and clinics across the United States.
