Candidate Description:
This Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT candidate grew up on a 25,000-acre working guest ranch in Colorado where he gained valuable experience in both guest services and high-country livestock and agriculture production. The ranch runs approximately 300 head of cows and 100 head of buffalo. He helped with branding cattle in the spring and moving cattle across grazing pastures on both horseback and ATV throughout the summer. He assisted in open ditch flood irrigation of approximately 1,200 acres of grass hay and 150 acres of wheel line irrigated alfalfa along with large, small and round bale hay production. He also observed and participated in a variety of habitat and stream restoration projects on the ranch. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Soil and Crop Sciences with a concentration in Applied Information Technology at Colorado State University. Throughout college he developed a good foundation in soil science and crop development and his concentration allowed him to gain valuable technology skills including proficient use of ArcGIS Pro, basic database management, and basic Java programming. Following college, he was an environmental scientist for a nationwide environmental engineering and consulting firm and a field technician for agricultural development company that offers agronomy, engineering, environmental compliance, surveying, and real estate services before returning to ranching. Most recently he managed a private working cattle and hay production ranch focusing on hay production, fishery and wildlife management, and recreation. He established a variety of annual and perennial wildlife food plots which involved seedbed preparation, no-till and broadcast seeding methods, irrigation and weed management.
