The employer values reliability, professionalism, and a team-oriented mindset.

This role focuses heavily on hay production, equipment operation, pivot irrigation, and winter feeding, with periodic support of the cattle crew during busy seasons. The ideal candidate prefers being in the tractor rather than the saddle and is looking for stability with a reputable ranch.

Responsibilities

- Assist in managing and maintaining 3,000+ acres of pivot irrigation, plus meadows, wheel lines, and hand lines

- Support haying operations: cutting, baling, moving bales, and coordinating the ranch share of contracted hay
- Participate in limited farming operations when rotating older hay ground before reseeding
- Feed cattle during winter months using bale processors and maintain bale yard inventory
- Assist the ranch crew during peak cattle-operation periods such as calving, branding, weaning, and cattle processing
- Perform routine equipment service and general maintenance in a well-equipped shop
- Work independently majority of the time independently while also contributing to a 5-person ranch team when needed
- Maintain clean work habits, stay organized, and follow directions reliably

Qualifications

- 2–3 years of current farm or ranch experience preferred, with strong ability in equipment operation and basic maintenance
- Skilled in hay production, pivot irrigation, and general farming tasks
- Ability to assist with cattle during busy seasons (calving, branding, chute-side work)
- Dependable, trustworthy, organized, and able to take direction while working independently
- “Gentle” and safe equipment operator with good mechanical aptitude
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Seeking long-term employment and stability with a reputable ranch

Compensation & Benefits

- Salary: Up to $50,000 depending on experience and references
- Housing: Newly remodeled 3-bedroom, 1-bath home with garage (family-friendly)
- Utilities included
- ½ beef annually
- Employer-provided insurance
- Paid vacation
- Ranch work vehicle provided
- K-6 and 7-12 schools nearby; spouse employment opportunities available in the area

About the Ranch

This multi-generational Western Montana operation runs approximately 2,000 bred cows and 700 heifers, supported by high-quality grass and hay ground. The ranch features updated facilities, including new corrals and a Silencer chute, along with well-maintained equipment and a strong team atmosphere.

The employer is not looking for a cowboy—this position is ideal for someone who prefers a tractor seat, enjoys irrigation work, and takes pride in producing quality forage while supporting the cattle program when needed.
