Job Title: Ranch Foreman
Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is assisting a large, progressive cattle and guest ranch operation in Wyoming in the search for an experienced Ranch Foreman / Livestock Manager. This position will play a key leadership role in a rapidly expanding cow-calf and hay operation and will work closely with General Manager to oversee cattle operations, records, feeding, hay production, equipment, and general ranch functions. This position may also be suitable for a qualified couple.
Operation Profile
- Large, multi-location ranch operation in Wyoming
- Approximately 70,000+ acres (deeded and leased)
- Expanding cow herd (currently ~800 head, growing to 1,000 head)
- Seasonal forest and winter grazing allotments
- Significant hay and annual forage program
- Dispersed ranch properties requiring independent field management
- The ranch is made up of multiple separate parcels, not one big contiguous block
- Pastures, allotments, and units are spread out geographically
- The foreman will often be working alone, away from headquarters
- The person must be able to:
- Travel between locations
- Make decisions on their own Check cattle, water, fences, and feed without daily supervision
- Manage time and priorities independently
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee daily cattle operations including calving, breeding, feeding, doctoring, shipping, and inventory control
- Maintain accurate and timely cattle records (calving, treatments, sales, death loss, movements) using digital record systems
- Manage cattle nutrition, feeding programs, and forage utilization
- Assist with planning and execution of seasonal grazing and trailing between seasonal ranges
- Oversee and assist with hay production including raking, baling, stacking, and night operations as needed
- Operate and maintain ranch equipment and vehicles
- Assist with facility maintenance including fences, corrals, water systems, roads, buildings, and feeding areas
- Work closely with management to coordinate ranch operations
- Assist with guest operations and special projects when needed, flexible attitude
- Supervise and work alongside cowboys, seasonal employees, and support staff
- Provide leadership, organization, and independent problem-solving in daily operations
Qualifications
- Strong background in cow-calf operations and ranch management
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Cattle record keeping and inventory management
- Nutrition and feeding programs
- Calving and herd health programs
- Comfortable using technology for real-time record entry and reporting
- Experience with hay production and large equipment operation
- Mechanical aptitude and maintenance capability preferred
- Ability to work independently across large, dispersed ranch properties
- Strong planning, organization, and time-management skills
- Positive attitude, team-oriented, and flexible work mindset
- Willingness to assist in any area of ranch operations as needed
- Prior supervisory or lead-hand experience preferred
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $50,000 – $75,000, depending on experience
