Job Title: Ranch Assistant
Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is searching for a qualified Ranch Assistant for a progressive family-owned ranch operation in Oregon. This is an excellent opportunity for a well-rounded agricultural professional seeking a long-term position within a diversified cow/calf and hay production operation. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety in their work and understands that modern ranching involves far more than horseback cattle work. The Ranch Assistant will work directly with ownership to support daily operations across all aspects of the ranch, including hay production, irrigation, equipment operation, fencing, and livestock care. This is a hands-on role requiring versatility, independence, and a strong work ethic.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain hay equipment:
- Swathing, raking, baling (round bales)
- Manage and maintain irrigation systems:
- Flood irrigation
- Wheel lines
- Center pivots
- Perform fencing:
- Construction
- Maintenance and repair
- Assist with cattle operations:
- Calving
- Feeding (bale processor)
- Herd movement and general care
- Operate and maintain ranch equipment
- General ranch upkeep and support
Livestock & Production Overview
- 1,200–1,400 head commercial cow/calf operation
- Hay production operation
- Irrigated meadows and extensive grazing systems
- Established ranch horse program (AQHA breeding)
Qualifications:
- Strong background in production agriculture or ranching
- Experience with:
- Hay production equipment
- Basic cattle handling
- Irrigation systems (preferred)
- Mechanical aptitude
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to perform a wide range of tasks
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on diversified ranch operations
- Horseback experience (helpful but not required) Horseback will be a small part of this position
- Family-oriented individual seeking long-term stability
Compensation & Benefits
- $3,200–$3,600/month DOE
