Job Description
Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is representing a large dairy located in Colorado who is searching for a qualified, hands-on Herd Manager. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3–5 years of dairy management experience leading a team of at least 10 employees, and is looking to foster a positive and productive workplace culture, implement excellent cow handling and management protocols. The Herd Manager will oversee the maintenance / scheduling / hiring / firing and all aspects of dairy herd personnel and animal care. Must be able to problem solve effectively, delegate appropriately and identify and cultivate supervised employees’ professional growth and excellence, while demonstrating an ability to continuously track and improve upon herd productivity. General knowledge of maintenance, including the day-to-day operation of crowd gates, milking parlor equipment, headlocks, and water tanks, etc, is required. Will update and maintain accurate herd records daily (dry cows, culls, breeding, treated cows, etc.) using Dairy Comp, as well as oversee sorting / cow productivity and health records using SCR (training on SCR will be provided if necessary). Oversee breeding, maternity, milking, dry-off, health maintenance and acute and accurate identification and treatment of sick/lame animals. Herd Manager will ultimately grow into overseeing breeding, maternity, milking, dry-off, health maintenance and acute and accurate identification and treatment of sick/lame animals. The herd manager will work closely with the general manager to build a cohesive and productive team.
