Overview
Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is seeking a Heifer & Reproduction Specialist for a progressive beef and dairy operation in the central United States. This expanding employer is growing from approximately 1,500 to as many as 5,000 head and is adding staff to support continued development.
The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of heifer management, including feeding and nutrition, herd health, and reproduction programs such as synchronization and artificial insemination. Additional responsibilities include overseeing daily livestock care, assisting with facility maintenance and upgrades, and contributing to efficient herd operations.

The position focuses on herd health, reproduction management, and heifer development within a modern livestock program that combines strong animal husbandry with advanced reproductive technology. Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily care and health of replacement heifers (Holstein and beef).
- Oversee and execute herd reproduction programs, including artificial insemination (AI), synchronization, and pregnancy checks.
- Monitor reproductive performance and herd health metrics using herd management and tracking systems.
- Work closely with the management team to ensure proper vaccination, nutrition, and breeding schedules.
- Maintain accurate health and breeding records in coordination with dairy and beef operations.
- Assist with calving, newborn care, and pre-fresh management.
- Support seasonal feedlot and harvest operations as needed.
- Collaborate with other employees and part-time staff to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient working environment.
- Train and mentor support staff in animal handling and reproductive practices as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of cattle reproduction, including AI and synchronization programs (AI proficiency required).
- Practical experience in herd health, animal handling, and general livestock husbandry.
- Ability to interpret and utilize data from herd management software (experience with dairy or beef record-keeping systems preferred).
- Willingness to learn new systems, technologies, and procedures.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a small team.
- Effective communication and record-keeping skills.
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred but not necessary.
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation:
- With housing: $35,000–$50,000 per year
- Without housing: $55,000–$75,000 per year
- Commensurate with experience and ability.
- Housing: On-site or nearby housing provided.
- Benefits: Workers’ compensation coverage; opportunity for long-term housing and advancement based on performance.
Work Environment
- Mid-sized, expanding cattle operation handling both beef and dairy genetics.
- Approximately 1,200 Holstein heifers currently on feed, with expansion toward 4,000–5,000 head.
- Collaborative team of full-time and part-time employees.
- Reports directly to the operations owner/manager.
