Qualifications:

- Minimum of 1 year of prior experience in the grain trading industry.
- In-depth knowledge of the grain trading industry, including hedging, marketing, logistics, and risk management.
- Understanding of futures, basis, spreads, and commodity risk management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal and external contacts.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and make productive use of time in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and business conditions.
- Ability to follow direction, established rules, and company policies.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and teamwork skills.
- A four-year degree in Agriculture, Business, or a related field is preferred.

Job Description:

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is representing a progressive agricultural company seeking an experienced Grain Merchandiser to join their team. This position will work closely with team members and customers in commodity-based daily trading activities. The Grain Merchandiser will be responsible for managing trading positions, developing and supporting relationships with suppliers and end users, maximizing company profitability, and adhering to strict business ethics and company policies. This role will work closely with management to understand company strategy and assist with its implementation throughout the trading group.

Responsibilities:

- Assist the General Manager and Assistant General Manager with daily trading and operational tasks.
- Work closely with management and monitor the Daily Position Report (DPR), overall positions, and trading strategy.
- Monitor daily position limits and provide accurate and timely reporting.
- Communicate and coordinate established processes and procedures between traders and execution staff, including paper flow from initial contract through final settlement.
- Assist with execution and trading communication between groups.
- Work closely with other offices to identify synergies and trading opportunities.
- Originate commodities from country elevators and company-owned facilities.
- Solicit new business while maintaining and developing existing business relationships.
- Manage customer and supplier relationships.
- Merchandise commodities by both truck and rail.
- Learn and understand rail rates and programs.
- Read, understand, and comply with applicable trade rules and regulations.
- Review credit limits and policies to maintain compliance at all times.
- Complete execution records as needed to ensure grain settlements are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Report accurate and timely grain positions and review position reports on a daily and monthly basis.
- Maintain current knowledge of commodity market intelligence and supply and demand conditions.
- Trade commodities within established company position limits and trading guidelines.
- Develop an understanding of futures, basis, spreads, and risk management strategies.
- Protect company inventories and contracted grain positions through appropriate hedging practices.
- Immediately report any breach of position limits, credit requirements, regulatory requirements, or company policies to the appropriate supervisor.
- Stay informed on traded markets and identify opportunities to grow company market share.
- Communicate with company personnel regarding market conditions, trading opportunities, and business activities by phone and email.
- Maintain current knowledge of required company education and regulatory materials.
- Travel as directed for company functions, training, customer visits, and other business needs.
