Job Title: Feedyard Yard Maintenance Technician
This is a hands-on role offering a variety of responsibilities including equipment operation, welding, repairs, fencing, plumbing, and general yard upkeep. The employer is seeking an individual with a strong work ethic, good mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain various types of heavy equipment used throughout the feedyard.
- Clean, maintain, and repair feed bunks and livestock watering systems.
- Install, repair, and relocate fencing as needed.
- Dig trenches and install or repair water lines.
- Perform basic carpentry, plumbing, and general maintenance projects.
- Perform welding, fabrication, and other repair work.
- Assist with sprinkler, drainage, and dewatering systems.
- Maintain yard roads, pens, and grounds using loaders, graders, and other equipment.
- Perform routine housekeeping around buildings, shops, and yard facilities.
- Assist the maintenance shop and equipment technicians when needed.
- Safely remove deceased livestock according to company procedures.
- Follow all workplace safety policies and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Complete other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Experience operating heavy equipment such as loaders, graders, skid steers, or similar machinery.
- Basic welding and fabrication skills preferred.
- General knowledge of plumbing, fencing, carpentry, and equipment maintenance.
- Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
- Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and with a team.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize work and adapt to changing daily needs.
- English communication skills are helpful but not required.
Work Environment
This position is primarily outdoors and requires working in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow. Occasional evenings, weekends, or holiday work may be required depending on operational needs.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work outdoors for extended periods.
- Ability to work 10-11 hour days during busy periods.
- Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely perform physically demanding work around livestock and heavy equipment.
Preferred Experience
- Previous feedyard, livestock, agricultural, or maintenance experience.
- One or more years of general maintenance experience.
- One or more years of welding or fabrication experience.
- Experience operating heavy agricultural or construction equipment.
