Ranch

Candidate Description:

This Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT candidate was born in Montana and has nearly 25 years of experience in ranch work, cattle operations, livestock marketing and horsemanship skills. He grew up working on his family’s ranch, was involved in 4-H, FFA and High School Rodeo and learned first-hand the value of a hard day’s work and what it means “to work the land”. He’s held positions that involved all aspects of managing a ranch including marketing, calving, feeding, branding, vaccinating, doctoring and working cattle on a variety of ranches; planting, irrigating, and harvesting feed for animals from hay to grains; and maintenance and operations of the ranch including fencing, building and designing corrals and watering systems, equipment operation and repairs, and financial considerations. As a ranch manager, he was responsible for the crew and had to be disciplined, organized, safety aware, driven and possess good communication skills with co-workers and others. He is an honest, dependable, trustworthy, hardworking, and a devoted man. Integrity, rural values and pride in his work is very important to him. He gets along well with others and is able to work collaboratively with others to accomplish goals or alone. He has served in leadership positions within the 4-H, FFA, and local Stockgrowers Association. He and his wife both grew up in an agricultural environment, appreciating the natural resources and understanding the need to properly manage these assets for livestock production and future generations. Ranching is in their blood and is a way of life that we are very fond of and passionate about. They want to raise their two daughters in this way of life and pass along to them and their future grandchildren everything that has been passed down to us. He has lived and worked in several communities within Montana and prefers to stay in state. Their network of ranch and agricultural friends and family is extensive and provide a wealth of resources of knowledge. They are both believers in life-long learning and are interested in continually gaining information on the latest methods, best practices and changes in the marketplace while holding on to their agricultural traditions.
